Privacy Policy for Mediator App

HLDN ("we", "us", or "our") built the Mediator mobile application (the "App") as a free convenience tool to help users interact with compatible devices, such as WebOS-powered televisions, by providing shortcuts, advanced features, and user-preference-oriented functionality.

This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles data. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about data practices.

1. Information We Collect and Store

We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data from you to our servers or to us directly.

1.1 Local Data and Media:

All user-specific information — including saved device configurations, connection settings, preferences, cached metadata, schedules, and other state data — is stored locally on your device only. No such data is sent to us or any server we control.

1.2 Media Casting and Serving:

The App includes features to discover and cast locally stored media (Photos, Videos, and Audio) to your compatible television. To provide this, the App acts as a local media server. Your media files are processed locally and are NEVER uploaded to our servers or shared with third parties.

1.3 TV Screenshots:

The App allows you to capture screenshots of your television. These images are downloaded and saved directly to your device's local storage. We do not have access to these screenshots.

1.4 New Features – Screen Mirroring, Media Casting & TV Screenshots

The App now includes screen mirroring (using system-level casting/mirroring shortcuts), media casting/file sharing (where the App acts as a local media server on your home Wi-Fi network), and the ability to capture and download screenshots from your compatible television.

All media files, casting streams, and screenshots are processed and stored locally on your device or transmitted only over your local home network. None of this content is uploaded to our servers or shared with any third parties (except as required for local network communication with your TV). We do not access or store your media files or screenshots.

1.5 Legal Basis for Processing:

We process data based on:

• Contractual Necessity: To provide the services and features you request (e.g., casting media).
• Legitimate Interests: To improve App performance, ensure security, and provide a convenient user experience.
• Consent: For third-party advertising (via UMP where applicable).

2. Third-Party Services and Advertising

The App integrates Google AdMob to display advertisements, which supports free access to the App.

Google AdMob and its advertising partners may collect and process certain information for ad serving, personalization, measurement, fraud prevention, and reporting purposes. This includes:

• Device identifiers (such as the advertising ID)
• Approximate location derived from your IP address or network data
• Usage data and interactions with ads (e.g., ad views, clicks, and related activity)
• Other technical information necessary for delivering ads, personalizing content (where consented), frequency capping, and analytics

This data processing happens independently of us — we do not receive or access this information ourselves. Google's collection and use of this data are governed by:

3. User Consent and Your Rights (GDPR & KVKK)

In regions where required (such as the EEA, UK, Switzerland, or Türkiye), you have specific rights regarding your data:

• Right to Access: You can request details about the limited data processing we perform.
• Right to Rectification: You can request correction of inaccurate data (though most data is stored only on your device).
• Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): You can request deletion of data. Uninstalling the App also removes all locally stored data.
• Right to Restrict or Object to Processing: You can manage your consent for advertising at any time.
• Right to Data Portability: You can request a copy of your data in a structured format.

You can manage these rights via the App's settings or by contacting us. For third-party ad data, you can manage your preferences through the Google UMP form or your device's advertising settings.

4. Performance and Sensitive Permissions (Assumption of Risk)

To provide its core features, the App requires access to certain sensitive permissions:

• READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: Required to allow you to select media files for casting and to save TV screenshots to your device.
• READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / VIDEO / AUDIO: Required on newer Android versions to access your media for casting purposes.
• Screen Mirroring: The App provides shortcuts to system-level casting/mirroring features.

Data Usage & Liability: These permissions are used strictly for local functionality (casting and saving files). BY GRANTING THESE PERMISSIONS, YOU EXPRESSLY ASSUME ALL RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH LOCAL DATA PROCESSING AND NETWORK COMMUNICATION. THE DEVELOPER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY HARDWARE MALFUNCTION, DATA CORRUPTION, OR SYSTEM INSTABILITY ARISING FROM THE USE OF THESE FEATURES. NO MEDIA CONTENT OR SCREEN DATA IS COLLECTED BY OR TRANSMITTED TO THE DEVELOPER.

5. Network Communications

The App communicates over your local network with your devices (e.g., for discovery, sending commands, and media serving) and may interact with platform services or third-party providers as needed for core functionality.

Such network activity may be visible to or logged by third parties (your ISP, device manufacturers, etc.) under their own terms. We do not control or assume responsibility for those practices.

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted here with a new effective date.
